2011-02-04: Working Prototype

Switch to PhoneGap

After spending the entire months of November and December 2010 making a Native iPad app in Objective-C, I realized it'll take me over a year to even have a working prototype. Moreover, the code would have to be rewritten from scratch if I want to make it work on Android or any other platforms. This would certainly go against my original plans of making a multi-platform device.

2010-11-16: iPad App Design

Native iPad App

The software-end of KType will be a native iOS4+/iPad application and will eventually be available on the Apple AppStore. I had originally planned on making KType using a different toolkit but for numerous reasons (performance, connectivity, stability), decided to purchase a Mac Mini and code in Objective-C using XCode. So far, the learning experience has been wonderful. I am learning primarily from the Stanford University: CS193P video lectures ava…

KType is targeted at individuals who cannot verbally communicate with ease, speed, or comfort. There is a large spectrum of speech capabilities among different people, depending on their specific medical conditions. Some can say a number of short phrases while others can make no verbal sounds. Some, such as Prof. Stephen Hawking have neurological disorders like ALS that affect motor control but not brain functions while others have good motor skills but lack coordination and comprehension skills…
